The Bon Secours hospitals in Richmond and Hampton Roads are integrating their operations, joining together to form one of the largest health systems in Virginia.

Peter Bernard, CEO of Bon Secours Richmond, assumed leadership of the new entity, to be called Bon Secours Virginia, this month.

Bernard said bringing all the hospitals’ operations together under one umbrella will serve as a model for Catholic health systems nationally.

The combined operation has seven hospitals throughout the state – four in Richmond and three in Hampton Roads.

There are more than 6,600 employees in the Richmond operations and more than 4,100 in Hampton Roads.
